As Your Representative

What is my part?

It’s all about quality of life, your life, and the role government should play in making it better. How are you doing? What can we do to make life better for you? Those are the questions I’ll be exploring during this campaign. I believe we have the answers and I’m determined to take the collective wisdom of the 4th Congressional District to Washington. I believe, as a community, we have the information, the knowledge, the compassion, and the empathy to solve the challenges facing American society. I believe these solutions come from combined individual input, focusing on the common links that bind us, at the same time, respecting the differences created by our individual perceptions.

Politics, it is said, is the art of compromise. I believe that. No individual has all the best answers, but as a community, through the process of respectful, democratic interaction, we will create solutions that work, that truly solve problems.

What is your part?

Register to Vote: If you’re not already registered to vote or if you need to update your voter information, click on this link (https://vote.utah.gov/register-to-vote-or-update-your-voter-registration) and it will take you to the Utah.gov website where you can do either. Utah has an exceptionally robust website, making it easy to register and stay current. Don’t procrastinate, do it now. – And, when you’re asked if you want to identify with any political party, make your selection the United Utah Party smile

Flex Your Political Muscle: Why should you vote? You’re just one person, what difference can you make? Politics is a mess and a real ‘turn-off’ so why should you get involved?

Because you can make THE difference!

Perhaps your neighbor hasn’t decided who to vote for and you put a political sign on your lawn. Because of the personal relationship you have with your neighbor, they decide to vote for your candidate because they trust you.

A surprising number of elections are decided by just a few votes. It may be the mayor’s race that’s decided by 6 votes, or the U.S. Presidential race decided by fewer than 2 votes per precinct. These things happen and your vote matters.

From the federal point of view, America is extremely polarized. This divisiveness is more the result of how our political system has evolved than who we as individuals are. Over the years, political power has consolidated into the hands of two major political parties and the few people who run them. These few have maneuvered the system to sustain their position and influence.

Political parties are private organizations that make, break, and change their own rules. They control the selection of candidates who appear on the ballot.

How can we, the voters in Utah’s 4th Congressional District change this?

By electing a congressman whose obligation is to the voters he represents, not the party that put him on the ballot. We can’t keep doing the same thing election after election and expect the system to change. The power brokers in the major parties have no incentive to bring us together as a country. The perpetuation of fear and anger serves their purpose and as long as we play into their hands they’ll continue to get their way at our expense.

Electing me as your congressman will send a message to the rest of the country: “We want democracy, we want problems solved, we’re through sending to Washington congressmen who have to tow the party line, whose first responsibility is to their political party.”

Your vote can change the direction America moves. Be involved and be sure to vote.

What I Believe

I believe in the basic goodness of individuals.

I believe that most problems facing society are the result of dysfunctional or broken systems, not the result of individuals acting badly.

I believe that collectively we are smarter and wiser than we are individually.

I believe, in today’s world, government can be more participatory and more democratic.

I believe we can improve the world by respecting and listening to each other, and by working together.

I believe America has a bright future where future generations will thrive.
